In this Van Gogh & Monet masterclass, you’ll create two impressionist-inspired paintings (or one more detailed piece, depending on time and level) using acrylics.

Paint Like Van Gogh – Bold, Expressive, Emotional

In the Van Gogh–inspired session, you’ll explore:

Strong, simplified shapes and compositions
Thick, energetic brushstrokes and directional marks
Vibrant, high-contrast colour choices
Using line and texture to create movement and emotion

You’ll work from a landscape or still life reference inspired by Van Gogh’s style and learn how to:

Build your painting in layers
Use expressive marks instead of “perfect details”
Push colour further than you normally would

Paint Like Monet – Soft Light & Colourful Atmosphere

In the Monet–inspired session, the focus shifts to light, atmosphere and broken colour. You’ll explore:

Soft edges and subtle transitions
Layering colour with light, dappled brushstrokes
Suggesting detail without painting every line
Creating the feeling of shimmering water, gardens or landscapes

You’ll learn how Monet used:

Limited drawing and more painting
Overlapping strokes of colour instead of flat filling
Light and shadow to create mood and time of day

Throughout the masterclass, you’ll be encouraged to combine what you learn from both Van Gogh and Monet to develop your own expressive style.
